What has changed on this route

Granada had no trains at all from 2015 to 2019 while the high-speed line from Antequera was built. The Antequera–Granada high-speed line opened in June 2019, and direct Avant trains between Seville and Granada started in February 2020, replacing the old, much slower conventional route. In early 2026, storm damage on Andalusia’s rail lines reduced some Avant services for several weeks; services have since been restored with revised timetables, which is another reason to check the schedule for your exact date.

Tips for the journey

  • Book early. With only a handful of direct trains a day, the convenient departures fill up in spring, autumn and around Easter.
  • Book the Alhambra first. Timed Alhambra entries often sell out weeks ahead; fix your visit, then choose your train.
  • Check the stops. Some timetabled Seville–Granada journeys involve a change of train; if you want a direct train, check that the booking shows no connection.

Does the Al Ándalus luxury train go to Granada?

No. Since 2026 the Al Ándalus luxury train runs 7 days / 6 nights between Seville and Madrid (in both directions), visiting Jerez and Cádiz, Córdoba, Mérida, Cáceres, Toledo and Aranjuez. Granada is not on the itinerary.

Until 2025 the Al Ándalus ran a different route: a Seville–Málaga loop that included Ronda, Granada and Úbeda/Baeza. That itinerary is no longer operated, so older articles and search results that say the Al Ándalus stops in Granada are out of date.
