Costa Verde Express
Frequently Asked Questions & Travel Tips
Planning your journey on the Costa Verde Express—Spain’s first luxury train? Here are answers to the most common questions from our guests. As Official Representatives of RENFE, Palace Tours is your trusted partner for booking this unforgettable Green Coast adventure.
Booking & Reservations
Palace Tours is the Official Representative of RENFE (Spanish Railways) in the United States. We provide instant confirmations, competitive rates, and expert advice from specialists who know these trains intimately. Our full-service support includes hotels, transfers, flights, and custom extensions throughout Spain.
Costa Verde Express offers an excellent value alternative with Junior Suites (6m²) versus the Gran Lujo’s larger Deluxe Suites (12m²). Both offer the same stunning Northern Spain route, gourmet dining, and all-inclusive experience. Costa Verde is 6 days/5 nights versus Gran Lujo’s 8 days/7 nights, making it perfect for those with less time.
We recommend booking 4-8 months in advance for the best selection. The Costa Verde Express has 23 suites accommodating up to 54 guests, but popular dates still sell quickly. Early booking qualifies you for our Early Bird discounts.
Cancellation policies depend on timing. Generally, earlier cancellations receive higher refunds. We strongly recommend travel insurance to protect your investment against unexpected changes. Contact us for specific terms and insurance options.
Absolutely! We’re a full-service Spain travel specialist. We can arrange flights, pre/post train hotels in Bilbao or Santiago de Compostela, transfers, rental cars, and extensions to other Spanish destinations like Madrid, Barcelona, or the Rioja wine country.
We accept all major credit cards, bank transfers, and checks. A deposit secures your booking with the balance due approximately 60 days before departure. Payment plans are available upon request.
Yes! We offer special rates for groups of 10 or more. Whether it’s a family reunion, club trip, or special celebration, we can help coordinate your group’s luxury train adventure. Private charters are also possible.
About the Train & Suites
Each Junior Suite is approximately 6 square meters (64.5 sq ft). While more compact than the Gran Lujo suites, they’re thoughtfully designed with everything you need: comfortable bed (120×185cm), private bathroom with hydro sauna and turbo massage shower, minibar, safe, wardrobe, and panoramic windows.
Junior Suites feature a double bed (120×185cm) which is suitable for couples. An optional upper bunk bed is available for families traveling with a child. Please specify your needs when booking.
Despite the compact size, the private bathroom is a highlight! It features a hydro sauna with turbo massage, steam bath function, hairdryer, and complimentary toiletries. Large picture windows in both the suite and bathroom let you enjoy the scenery.
No! Like all Spanish luxury trains, the Costa Verde Express parks at a station each night. You’ll enjoy peaceful, undisturbed sleep and wake refreshed for each day’s excursions. You can even take evening strolls in whichever town you’re overnighting.
Wi-Fi is available in the lounge cars. Mobile phone coverage is generally good along the route. However, we encourage unplugging and enjoying the spectacular Green Coast scenery!
The Costa Verde Express features four luxury lounge areas: two dining lounges for breakfast and social time, and a bar lounge serving everything from espresso to cocktails. The entire train is internally connected so you can move freely throughout.
Practical Information & Travel Tips
Pack light! Suite space is limited. Bring comfortable walking shoes, layers for variable weather (the Green Coast can be cool and misty), smart casual dinner attire, rain jacket, camera, sunscreen, and medications. One carry-on size bag per person is ideal.
The atmosphere is relaxed but elegant. Daytime is casual and comfortable for excursions. Dinners call for smart casual attire—no shorts, tank tops, or flip-flops. One slightly dressier outfit for the farewell dinner is nice but not required.
All meals are included: buffet breakfasts on board, gourmet lunches and dinners either on board or at regional restaurants. All meals include wine, water, coffee, and tea. The cuisine showcases the best of Northern Spain—fresh seafood, Basque specialties, and local wines.
Yes! All guided excursions, entrance fees, and coach transportation are included. You’ll explore the Guggenheim Museum, Santander, Picos de Europa, Oviedo, Luarca, and Santiago de Compostela with expert multilingual guides.
The train requires climbing steps to board, and excursions involve walking on uneven surfaces, cobblestones, and stairs at historic sites. Guests should be able to walk moderate distances independently. Please contact us to discuss your specific situation.
The Costa Verde Express operates April through October. The ‘Green Coast’ gets its name from frequent rain, so expect changeable weather any time. Spring and fall offer mild temperatures and fewer crowds. Summer is warmest but busiest. Pack layers regardless of season!
Almost everything is included! Gratuities are optional but appreciated—typically €30-50 per person for the crew. Bring a small amount for souvenirs or personal purchases. Credit cards are widely accepted in Spain.
